Table Waiter is a software service which provides restaurants with a mobile app ordering service. This mobile app helps to provide customers with easier pick-up or sit-in options.
Project Details
Goals
The goal for this project is to design a mobile app to help restaurants with a centralized area for customers to place orders for pick-up or when they're eating-in at the restaurant.
Process
Our team was tasked to complete the project using the Waterfall methodology. We started off the project with a team meeting to discuss what type of service app we wanted to create and a general idea of what we wanted it to look like. The idea of our app, Table Waiter, came to be when we decided to create a mock-up for an app that gives customers the ability to order from a restaurant with ease.
The graphic designer on our team came up with logo sketches and brand colors. After discussing the brand colors, fonts, and logo that our team’s graphic designer came up with, the final brand colors we decided on were yellow, green, orange, and red (#F5C550, #7AA43F, #F5762F, #EE553C).
We decided on the colors because they’re bright, exciting, and clean, while not too harsh on the eyes. It also happens to be the color of bell peppers, which we think can help users associate with food. The fonts we chose were Alkaline Caps and Alkaline Regular. However, not long after, we decided to change the font to something more legible for an app, so it was decided the final font for the project was Alata.
From there, I started on the wireframes. The initial proposed idea was to have a login page, food menu page, bookmark function, search function, add to cart page, checkout page, and a payment and order summary page. Because I like brainstorming with pen and paper, I sketched out my ideas for the wireframes before replicating them in Figma. I worked on the high-fidelity wireframes and brought them to my team for any suggestions/revisions. Photos for this app mock-up were from Adobe Stock images and Unsplashed.
The final product was a high-fidelity prototype that showed the user’s flow through the app. It starts with creating an account to browsing the menu, all through placing an order either for pick up or table service.
